Overview: The Ministry of Health has issued an extraordinary measure, which orders a ban on visits to persons with effect from 10 March 2020 for all providers of inpatient health services and social services facilities. An exception is inpatient care, which is provided to minor patients, patients with limited disabilities and mothers. The ban on visits also does not apply to hospices, including services for patients in the terminal stage of an incurable disease.

“Our goal is to protect the most vulnerable groups, which include seniors and people with more serious illnesses. Therefore, we target facilities where there may actually be a risk of infection, such as homes for the elderly or hospitals, ” said Minister Adam Vojtěch.

Extraordinary measures are issued in connection with the unfavorable development of the epidemiological situation in the incidence of COVID-19 caused by the new coronavirus in Europe. This measure is one of the important preconditions for preventing the spread of COVID-19 disease caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the Czech Republic in relation to vulnerable groups of people.

“The emergency measure does not apply, for example, to children’s wards or hospices, because in these cases the ban could have adverse consequences if, for example, children could not be visited by their parents or the family could visit their seriously ill relatives at the last stage of life,” the minister added.
